wbez/chicago sun-times’ 2023 people's agenda

WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times collaborated on an initiative for Chicago’s 2023 Municipal Elections called the People's Agenda. Imagery-wise, they wanted something that emphasized the voice of the people, specifically targeting younger and more diverse audiences. Through this project, listeners and readers would directly impact the reporting they would do surrounding the election.

I devised the initial cover art (top left) using the colors of the Chicago flag mixed with navy blue, black and white to suggest trustworthiness. The result was a playful collage effect, with abstract shapes emphasizing and playing with images. I curated a large library of imagery and played with illustrations and linework for emphasis. After I designed the cover art, digital/social/print ads, and flyers in both English and Spanish, the branding and library of visual assets was eventually used for all 2023 municipal elections reporting, including designs by my teammates for social media, voting guides, and debate announcements.
