The Chicago Sun-Times launched a new advice column called Someone in Chicago geared toward a younger demographic in 2023. They came to me with a color palette and logo in hand. Playing with the muted colors, I created marketing materials in a collage style, keeping it playful with animations. This eventually extended into editorial graphics, and we made the call to use animals and avoid people and faces where possible, which not only avoided any sticky situations that can go with representing specific people, but also leaned into the friendly, conversational tone of the column.
